VOLUNTEER APPRENTICE

Job Description
Gunstock Ranch’s Volunteer Apprentice program is designed to teach people interested in horses and the horse industry through hands-on experience.  Volunteer Apprentices will learn to basic horse husbandry, health and care, facility maintenance, and be introduced to riding.
The Volunteer Apprentice program is 16 weeks long.  At the end of 16 weeks, the volunteer will be able to properly handle a horse, know basic care and feeding, and have the basic skills to control a horse both from the ground and in the saddle.

Job Requirements

qMust be at least 15 years of age
qMust have a desire to learn about horses and horsemanship
qMust be able to dedicate at least 8 hours per week to volunteering at the ranch
qMust be able to lift 50 pounds
qMust wear proper attire - jeans, boots or covered shoes, and shirt with sleeves (short or long)
qMust follow Gunstock Ranch safety policies and procedures
qMust have a strong work ethic
qMust have good attendance
qExhibit a genuine concern for safety while working around horses

Ranch employment is fun and fulfilling work. It is also very hard work. We search for staff members that are mature, self-starting, have strong communications skills, team players, appreciate nature, and have a strong desire to learn more about horses and horsemanship. Staff members must be flexible in their work responsibilities at Gunstock Ranch. Every staff member will be expected to help in every area of ranch operations at some time or another such as mucking stalls/paddocks, feeding, grooming, and other misc. chores.
