Gunstock Ranch is a 700 acre working ranch located at the base of the beautiful Koolau Mountain Range on Oahu’s North Shore. In addition to livestock sales and horse boarding, Gunstock Ranch offers some of Hawaii’s finest horseback riding trails. Meandering through the majestic Koolau mountains you will come to viewpoints that overlook miles of Oahu’s beautiful coastline. Gunstock Ranch arena has hosted various rodeo events including barrel races, roping, and sorting events. It also welcomes Hawaii High School Rodeo youth to practices and competition. In addition to horse related events and activities, Gunstock Ranch is proud to hold annual community events like our community Easter Egg Hunt complete with mounted Easter Bunny and the Paniolo Country Rodeo, which is held each year at the Gunstock Ranch Arena. Other annual and popular events on the ranch include the 5K and 1/2 Marathon every October and The Chip Campbell Memorial Team Sorting in August, Gunstock Ranch is happy to be a part of the Paniolo and non-paniolo community on Oahu.
Gunstock Ranch has been in the Smith family for over 35 years. Originally from Arizona, the late Max Smith was a third generation rancher. He moved to the islands in 1965 to become a state meat inspector. He was later elevated to state veterinarian. Smith was Hawaii state veterinarian until 1994, retiring after 19 years. Max Smith also received the honor of being added to the Paniolo Hall of Fame.
Gunstock Ranch is now operated by Greg and Kyndra Smith. They have expanded the services they offer. Gunstock Aquatics Swim School was opened in 2007 and has been busy serving both children and adult from Ka’a'awa to Haleiwa. Gunstock has also become a very popular spot for both pony and pool parties. Concerts have been held in our large meadow and movies have been shot at our location. At Gunstock, our goal is to focus on making sure each customer has a positive experience whether it is for our kama’aina or those traveling from other parts of the world wanting an authentic cowboy experience.
Boarding at Gunstock Ranch offers large pastures at great prices. In addition to private boarding pastures, full service stalls, and tailoring/hauling service, we have miles and miles of great riding trails! If you are more of an arena rider, we have a great footed arena equipped with cattle chutes for roping. If English riding is your passion we welcome you too. And for those who prefer no saddle at all, well you will feel right at home riding with us! Gunstock Ranch Management appreciates the varied riding styles of every horseman/woman. Although Gunstock Ranch promotes safety, we also respect your freedom to ride as you wish. We like to have happy horses and happy riders!
